We are in mid-August, which only means ONE thing for me: vacation is over soon. I went back to work yesterday. School is starting soon. Talking about sleep and returning to school would be great since many people have been asking me. And it is not the day before school that we start talking about returning to a routine; it can take a couple of weeks.

Who do we turn to as moms/parents when we are desperate for help, especially when we are sleep-deprived? Mostly other moms or, dangerously, MOM GROUPS. The reason why I say dangerously is that the majority of mom groups are full of people who have different values and opinions. When you are desperate, you will try ANYTHING, even sometimes if it is unsafe or doesn’t stick to your values. Some people even get shamed because they don’t align with others’ values. Mom shaming is, unfortunately, a thing in today's world. So, how do we navigate this time when we are so desperate for help and information?

Last year, I decided to reach out to Sonya to see if she was ready to expand her company because I had been helping many families with their children’s sleep, and I noticed I was very passionate about it. One of my friends who I helped sleep train her oldest son was one of my first families. I asked her if she would like to talk about her experience on the podcast, and she agreed. Some of you would enjoy listening to a mom who has been through this, and Dominique is a very relatable mom.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), every year, around 3,500 babies in the United States die suddenly and unexpectedly while they're sleeping. Most of these tragic deaths are due to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) or accidental deaths from suffocation or strangulation. I know this is an American organization, but Canadian doctors use it a lot as they are very up-to-date with this research. As parents, we don’t have much control on a lot of things, but there is one thing we 100% have control over, and that is make the CHOICE on how safe our baby's sleep environment is. As you know, we always commit to giving you evidence based information. So today, we will discuss ways to ensure your baby is safe in their sleep environment.
Now that we are at episode 19, we are confident enough to start diving into triggering subjects. We started this podcast to help families, and that is what we will continue to do.
We know some people could feel triggered by this subject, which is a normal reaction because there is so much conflicting information. The thing is, it is not all research-based information. That is why we are going to bring you evidence-based stuff!
Wouldn’t you want to know the best information for your children? When you know better, you do better.
You can make clear, conscious decisions for your child when you have all the information.

It is summer, and many families travel this time of year. This can be stressful for some parents because they worry about their children’s sleep. Flights are at all times of the day and sometimes at night. Long layovers in airports can be brutal to deal with, and these things can make kids overtired and cranky. During our unscripted podcast, We were talking, and Nath mentioned that her family was taking a trip to Mexico this fall. She was concerned because she would have zero control over sleep during travelling.

So what CAN she do to help or minimize the impact?

This is why I thought about Stephanie Zebaneh from Après The Bump; she is the perfect person to discuss this.

Last week, we talked about the 2 to 1 nap transition. The signs that they are ready or not for this transition. Kids usually stay on that one nap for a while! Thankfully, it gives parents a break! They can't stay on that nap forever, though, unfortunately, so how and when should you drop that nap? And what happens after that?
Dropping that last nap can be scary because you could be scared to lose that afternoon break or time to yourself. If you still want to hold onto that break, you could transition to a « quiet time » instead. So we will be talking about that too!

Two weeks ago, we talked about the 3 to 2 nap transition, and we know that many of you are waiting anxiously to hear all about the 2 to 1 nap transition.

In this episode, we will be going through the signs that they are NOT ready for this transition, but we will also highlight the signs that show us that they ARE ready. During this podcast, we will discuss daycares and what to do if they only offer babies one nap, and we will finish by going through the steps on how to drop the 2nd nap. Buckle up!

One of the things that we do when it comes to babies is ADAPT. Babies grow FAST, and the faster a child grows, the more we must adapt. Sleep is no exception. We go through so many transitions with babies. One of those is dropping naps. But how should we do that? How do we know they are ready? At what age should we be dropping naps?
Today we will be talking about the transition between 3 to 2 naps and when younger babies should even start having THREE naps.
